BMW Engine Warning Light
Is your Engine Management Light on?
If your vehicle's electronics have detected an issue with the engine, the engine management light will turn on. You will find this behind the steering wheel.
The light uses a colour coded basis to indicate the engine's condition. The colours include:
Green - The system is working as normal as in use.
Yellow - Something is not right. The vehicle should be taken to a garage to determine the issue.
Red - There is a serious and dangerous issue. Stop driving as soon as it is safe to do so and arrange recovery for your car to be taken to a garage. If you continue to drive, this could incur expensive damage.
The latest BMW models including the 3 series, the X3 series and the 1 series have sensors which monitor all of the vehicle's systems.
When it comes to BMWs, the engine warning light may also be called the Engine Management Indicator or the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). If this is illuminated to indicate there is a problem, you may notice some signs that the engine is not working properly such as a lack of power or shuddering as you accelerate.
